Diving Koh Samui — Sail Rock Day Trip via Koh Phangan
Diving Koh Samui is easier than you think. Sail Rock — the best dive site in the Gulf of Thailand — is reachable as a full day trip, without leaving Koh Samui the night before. The idea is simple: take the first Lomprayah ferry in the morning, join our boat in Koh Phangan, dive twice at Sail Rock and return to Koh Samui the same evening. Indeed, our 10am departure is the only schedule in the Gulf compatible with the first Lomprayah ferry.
How the Diving Koh Samui Day Trip Works
Our departure from Koh Phangan is at 10am — the only schedule in the Gulf compatible with the first Lomprayah ferry from Koh Samui. Here is how your day unfolds:
- ~7:30am — First Lomprayah ferry from Koh Samui
- ~8:30am — Arrive in Koh Phangan (Thong Sala pier)
- 10:00am — Our boat departs for Sail Rock
- 11:15am — First dive at Sail Rock
- 12:30pm — Hot lunch on board (surface interval)
- 1:30pm — Second dive at Sail Rock
- 4:00pm — Return to Koh Phangan pier
- ~5:00pm — Last Lomprayah ferry back to Koh Samui
Furthermore, every trip includes the Lomprayah return ferry between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, full equipment and lunch. You therefore have nothing extra to arrange.

Frequently Asked Questions — Diving from Koh Samui
Why dive from Koh Phangan instead of going directly to Koh Tao?
Koh Phangan is much closer to Sail Rock than Koh Tao — just 1h15 by boat compared to 2 hours. Furthermore, our 10am departure from Koh Phangan is the only one compatible with the Lomprayah ferry from Koh Samui. Centres based in Koh Tao depart at 6:30am — too early to catch the first ferry from Koh Samui.
What level do I need for diving Koh Samui at Sail Rock?
An Open Water certification (SSI, PADI or equivalent) is required for fun dives at Sail Rock. If you don’t yet have a certification, we can also organise a try scuba from Koh Phangan in the same day. Check the try scuba price table below.
Can I do SSI courses as a day trip from Koh Samui?
Yes — we offer try scuba, SSI courses and specialties from Koh Phangan. However, some courses require several days. In that case, staying in Koh Phangan is recommended. Contact us and we’ll help you plan the best programme based on your level and dates.
Is the Lomprayah ferry included in the price?
Yes — our diving prices from Koh Samui include the Lomprayah return ferry between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. You therefore have nothing to book separately. However, we recommend checking the latest timetable on lomprayah.com before your trip, as schedules can vary by season.
