Sail Rock — known locally as Hin Bai — is the most celebrated dive site in the Gulf of Thailand. This isolated granite pinnacle rises from 42 metres to just below the surface, with its famous natural chimney, dense barracuda tornadoes, giant groupers and regular whale shark sightings. Moreover, its position between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan makes it easily accessible from both islands.
From Koh Phangan, Sail Rock is just 1h15 by boat — compared to 2 hours from Koh Tao. It’s the closest departure point in the Gulf for this site, and it’s from Chaloklum that we leave every morning. Staying in Koh Samui? You can dive Sail Rock today
Our 10:00am departure from Koh Phangan is the only one in the Gulf of Thailand compatible with the Lomprayah ferry from Koh Samui. Every other operator departs at 6:30am — too early to catch this ferry. In contrast, at The Divers Boat, you take the 8am Lomprayah from Koh Samui, arrive in Koh Phangan in time, dive twice at Sail Rock and return to Koh Samui the same evening. Furthermore, no overnight stay is required, making it a perfect day trip.
Lomprayah ferry from Koh Samui (depart 8:00am, arrive Thong Sala 8:30am) → transfer to Chaloklum (~30 minutes) → boat departs 10:00am → two dives at Sail Rock → back in Chaloklum 4:00pm → transfer to Thong Sala pier (~30 minutes) → Lomprayah ferry back to Koh Samui (depart 5:00pm, arrive 5:30pm). The Red Boat, our dedicated vessel for this location, departs every morning at 10:00am — nothing to carry, equipment is already on board.
