Hin Wong Pinnacle dive site Koh Tao: the east coast advantage<\/h2>\n

Hin Wong Pinnacle sits on the east coast of Koh Tao, on the opposite side of the island from the big offshore sites like Chumphon Pinnacle or Sail Rock. Thanks to this position, sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds, it is one of the very few sites on Thailand’s diving island that remains accessible in virtually any weather conditions. When conditions shut down the west coast, Hin Wong Pinnacle becomes our destination of choice and more often than not, the highlight of the day.<\/p>\n

The journey from Mae Haad takes approximately 40 minutes by boat, rounding the island. However, when the boat is moored on the east side. The site is just 10 minutes away a significant advantage in rough weather. Furthermore, the east coast of Koh Tao sees far less boat traffic than the west: fewer boats, fewer divers in the water, undisturbed marine life and altogether more peaceful dives.<\/p>\n

What sets Hin Wong Pinnacle apart from other Koh Tao dive sites is above all its gorgonian sea fans<\/strong>. These fan-shaped corals, ranging in colour from bright yellow to deep orange, cover the walls of the pinnacle from around 15 metres down. Anchored in the current, they filter suspended particles and shelter a remarkable micro-fauna: shrimps, small fish and nudibranchs that only the most patient divers manage to spot.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the rocky walls of Hin Wong Pinnacle drop progressively to 30 metres. It’s offering a varied dive profile suitable for both Open Water certified divers and Advanced divers looking to explore the deeper sections.     Hin Wong Pinnacle is accessible to divers holding a minimum Open Water (OW)<\/strong> certification. The top of the pinnacle at 10 metres is well within OW limits and already hosts interesting marine life. However, to reach the most impressive sea fans and explore the walls down to 30 metres, an Advanced Open Water (AOW)<\/strong> certification is recommended.<\/p>\n
